Overview

Aim

Acquisition of communicative language skills for academic and professional contexts: basic language skills for studying abroad

Languages

German as a Foreign Language (DaF), French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish

Subject orientation

Humanities and Social Sciences, Medicine, Law, Economics

Examination

study-relatated, cumulative examination; the UNIcert® II certifies language skills on level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Admission

good grounding in the target language, i.e, a minimum of 40-45 points in the c-test

Duration

a minimum of 2 semesters; the programme for DaF/German and French may also be completed in 1 semester

each term

Workload

a minimum of 8 SWS (credit hours); DaF/German 9 SWS

Organisation / Kosten

You can complete the courses in any order you desire. 

You can apply for the certificate as soon as you have completed all required courses. The final grade is the average of the grades of all required courses.

You can apply for the UNIcert® II certificate during the office hours of the target language coordinator.

There is an issuing fee of 10 € for the certificate. The fee must be paid in cash on application.     

 

Study course plan

German as a Foreign Language (DaF): 

The following courses (Konversation & Hörverstehen, Leseverstehen & Textproduktion) must be completed:

  • - Konversationsübungen und Übungen zum Hörverstehen (Conversation and Listening Comprehension
       → additionally, it is recommended to take the module „Selbstlernmodul zur Verbesserung des Hörvestehens (SLM) / Listening Comprehension Self-study Module“
  • - Übungen zum Leseverstehen (Reading Comprehension)
       → Humanities and Social Sciences: z.B. Übungen zum Leseverstehen/ Exercises in Reading Comprehension
       → Law: z.B. English for Law for M.A. students, Deutsches Recht, Schwerpunkt Lesen / Legal German for M.A. Students of German Law (Emphasis: Reading Skills)
       → Economics: Fachsprache Ökonomie, Schwerpunkt Lesen / German for Specific Purposes: Economics (Emphasis: Reading Skills)
     
  • - Übungen zum Schreiben (Written Production)
       → Humanities and Social Sciences: Verfassen einer Seminararbeit und (Text-) Grammatik (Writing a term paper and textual grammar)
       → Law: Fachsprache Jura, Schwerpunkt Schreiben / German for Specific Purposes: Law (Emphasis: Writing Skills)
       → Economics: Fachsprache Ökonomie, Schwerpunkt Schreiben / German for Specific Purposes:  Economics (Emphasis: Writing Skills)

 

French

Group A : Students must complete the following three courses: 

  • Expression écrite et grammaire en contexte (2 SWS)
  • Conversation et compréhension orale (2 SWS)
  • Lecture de textes et expression orale (2 SWS)

Group B: Students must complete one of the following courses:

  • Introduction au français professionnel (2 SWS)
  • (Sur)vivre en France – études, stages et vie quotidienne (2 SWS, only in the summer term)

 

Italian

For all study subjects: students must complete four elective courses from sections A and B (at least one from section A):

Section A: Subject-specific courses

  • Introduzione alla microlingua per le scienze umane e sociali
  • Introduzione alla microlingua economico-giuridica

Section B: General and intercultural language courses

  • Espressione scritta e lettura di testi
  • Ripassi di grammatica e redazione di testi scritti
  • Conversare in italiano
  • Studiare in Italia

 

Portuguese

  • Expressão oral e compreensão auditiva (2 SWS, only winter term)
  • Leitura e Compreensão de textos (2 SWS, only winter term) 
  • Expressão escrita e aperfeiçoamento da gramatica (2 SWS, only summer term)
  • Estudar em Portugal e Brasil – Vorbereitungskurs für Austauschstudierende (2 SWS, only summer term) 

 

Spanish

Section A: students must complete three of the courses below:

  • Palabras y textos (2 SWS)
  • Voces y acentos (2 SWS)
  • Taller de escritura (2 SWS)
  • Mesa redonda (2 SWS)
  • Estudiar en España e IberoaméricaVorbereitungskurs für Austauschstudierende (2 SWS, only summer term)

Section B: students must complete one of these courses:

  • Introducción al espanol económico y comercial (2 SWS, only summer term)
  • Introducción al lenguaje de las Ciencias Naturales (2 SWS, only summer term)
